Pachira aquatica is a tree native to the marshy areas of Central and South America. In its natural habitat it can reach 18 metres in height, but as an indoor plant it rarely exceeds one and a half metres. Despite being a tree, it is a very popular plant to have in the home, or to grow as a bonsai, due to the low care it requires and the ease of controlling its growth.
The trunk of young Pachira aquatica plants is carefully trained into a braided shape, then maintained in the same type of configuration as it grows.

Other Information
Pachira aquatica is an important plant for Feng Shui practitioners, and its common name, money tree, reflects this. Its five leaves symbolize the five Feng Shui elements: wood, water, earth, fire and metal. It is believed that if placed in the right place, it will attract positive “chi,” or favorable energy. The East Asian belief that this plant actually attracts money makes it a common presence in offices in Japan and China.
