Pelargonium zonale blooms in huge clusters of bright red flowers, which is where this beautiful variant gets its name. The flowers are set against green leaves with bronze-brown rings, and the decorative contrast is a key feature of this cultivar. It grows to about 30cm tall and is popular in borders and flower beds.

Ideal Temperature
Ideal Temperature
Pelargonium zonale are native to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, so they like moderate and cool climates. The suitable temperature range for growth is 5-25℃, and the optimum temperature is 15-20℃. The relative humidity should not be higher than 75%, and excessive temperatures and humidity should be avoided.
Watering
Watering
Watering is necessary if the soil is dry to 0.8 inches deep. In spring and fall, the soil should be watered abundantly and excess water should drain easily afterwards. The succulent stems of pelargonium zonale are not water and moisture resistant and will rot with too frequent watering and waterlogging.
In summer and winter, only a small amount of water is needed: about a quarter of the volume of soil in the pot. Water the soil in the morning in spring and autumn, and in the morning or evening in summer. Water at noon in winter.
Light
Light
Pelargonium zonale likes sufficient sunlight and will grow and flower normally in good sunlight conditions. However, the plants cannot tolerate excessive sunlight. In early spring, pelargonium zonale can be placed in a warm, bright location. In summer, the plants basically stop growing, so direct sunlight should be avoided. At this time, the plants can be moved indoors to a balcony with filtered light, or transferred to the shade of trees.
Soil
Soil
Pelargonium zonale need a weak, acidic, loose, fertile, permeable and sandy soil that contains humus.
